Renewable Energy

Welcome to the Red Cloud Renewable Energy Center

Welcome to Red Cloud Renewable, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that is managed by, and primarily staffed by Native Americans from the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

Our goal is to help Native Americans and their communities return to sustainability through renewable energy training and projects, alternative building approaches and educating our people about how to grow and preserve nutritious and traditional Lakota foods.

We recognize that the clash of cultures between Native and non-Natives has been a harsh story, but we also know that history is not something that just happened a long time ago.  It is continually being created every day and constantly rolling out behind us.  Red Cloud Renewable is dedicated to working cooperatively and in fellowship with people of every country and race to add a new chapter to this story – one that is based on mutual respect, caring and sharing of our resources and skills.

It is time to move beyond our difficult past and to find ways to work together that take the goodness of non-Natives and the goodness of the Lakota and make some new and good exist in the world. Be a Solar Warrior.

We believe this path is a new way to honor the old ways and we hope you will join us on this journey of remembering our past, while building a new and better future!

  • Installed a variety of solar electric arrays including a 20 kW system for Kili radio, the Voice of the Lakota Nation.

  • In June 2019, RCR will fund and install a 22.5 kW solar electric system on the Pine Ridge Girl's School and provide two days of technical training and 5 days of hands-on training for up to 20 Native Americans.  All costs are covered except for transportation to and from Pine Ridge including dormitory lodging and meals (June 15-21).  A special thanks to our friends at Panasonic that donated all the many panels we needed for this amazing project.
